Jaguar X-Type engine range gives efficient performance

The Jaguar X-Type is a series of compact cars with stunning looks, beautiful and spacious interior, well composed handling with precise steering, low running cost and lot of tech. There is a good range of petrol engines for Jaguar X-Type but there was no room for diesels until 2003.

The Jaguar X-Type series is a limited edition of executive compact luxury cars, produced by Jaguar Cars from 2001 to 2010. The Jaguar X type was marketed with two different variants as Saloon and Estate. Both variants were absolutely good, efficient, comfortable, well refined and excellent for long distance cruising with decent handling.

Based on Ford’s Platform

The Jaguar X-Type was based on a modified version of the Ford CD 132 platform of Ford Mondeo. It was launched in the market to compete with the Audi 4, BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes C- Class, but unfortunately it couldn’t get the popularity as the manufacturer expected. The main reason of this defame was the lack of diesel engine range in lineup.  The Jaguar realized its mistake and added diesel engines in its lineup from 2003.

The Jaguar X-Type Engines

There is a 2.0 litre V6 petrol engine, capable of producing 157bhp and 148lb/ft. It is a six-cylinder engine, so its fuel economy is not impressive one in such a big saloon like Jaguar X-Type. Its fuel average is just 30m/g with lot of CO2 emissions, 219g/km. The top speed of this petrol unit is 130m/h and it takes 8.9 seconds to get from 0-62m/h.

The 2.5 litre V6 with 194bhp and 180lb/ft torque petrol engine is a little bit quicker than the previous unit. It takes 7.9 seconds to get from 0-62m/h with top speed of 140m/h.

Comparatively big engine means low fuel average. It gives only 29m/g of fuel average with 234g/km of CO2 emissions. Both engines are equipped with five-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel drive as standard.

The Jaguar X-Type saloon is available in 3.0 litre V6 petrol engine which is capable of producing 231bhp and 209lb/ft torque. It is the fastest petrol engine that takes only 6.6 seconds for 0-62m/h sprint with top speed of 147m/h. It gives the lowest fuel average of 27m/g with the highest ratio of CO2 emissions with 244g/km.

The Jaguar X-Type is more responsive and efficient with diesel engines

In diesel engines, the 2.0 litre with 128bhp and 244lb/ft torque is an entry-level diesel engine. It is capable of maintaining the top speed of 125m/h with good fuel economy. It gives 50m/g of fuel average with 149g/km of CO2 emissions. It takes 9.5 seconds to reach from 0-62m/h.

The 2.2 litre diesel engine is available with 152bhp and 270lb/ft torque. The top speed of this diesel engine is 137m/h with 47m/g of fuel average. It takes 8.5 seconds to get from 0-62 m/h and it emits 159g/km of CO2. It is equipped with six-speed manual gearbox with front–wheel drive assembly.

The availability of Jaguar X-Type with diesel engines has recaptured the audience and gives tough time to its rivals. Though the BMW 320i and 320d are fun to drive, but the X-Type gives some extra.
